Hi, I'm Coreen.
By day I'm an accountant: spreadsheets, ten-keys, and a deep love of a tidy ledger. By every other hour I'm a pet writer. My work appears on PetFul, where I cover behavior, rescue, and the small, ordinary science of shared life with companion animals.
Originally from San Jose, I traded the Bay Area fog for Arizona sunshine a few years back. The desert turned out to be a surprisingly good writing room, and an even better backyard for a dog, two cats, and a weekend hiking habit.
When I'm not at a keyboard or a trailhead, I'm at Heidi's Village, the rescue I currently volunteer with. Twelve-plus years in animal rescue and counting. At home, I share my days with Mac, Rebel, and Meri. Hi. Welcome in.

Heidi's Village
Heidi's Village is the Phoenix-area sanctuary I currently volunteer with, feeding, walking, fostering, and sometimes carrying an animal the last ten feet of a very long road. Twelve-plus years into rescue work across shelters, and it still feels new every time: new faces, new names, new families finally ready to take someone home.
Rescue is the quiet thread that ties the rest of my life together. It shapes what I write, who I share a couch with, and why I think companion animals deserve stories told with care.

The things that feed the writing.
Hiking
Weekends start at the trailhead. Long walks in the right weather are where most of the writing gets figured out.
Crystals
There is a drawer of them, and it is growing. Aquamarine for calm, black tourmaline for everything else.
Plant-based kitchen
Mostly greens, loudly seasoned. The kitchen runs on olive oil, lemon, and whatever came out of the garden this week.
